The inaugural online auction held by Maria Costello of Equine Auctions Ireland saw buyers from 9 countries purchase 20 Connemara Ponies for a total of €108,500. Launched less than 2 months ago, the sale attracted a global clientele interested in Connemara ponies. The salestopper was 9 year old eventing mare, Cillbhrid Pippa that reached €20,000 who will continue her career in the United States.

“This first auction has shown that both buyers and sellers are adaptable. The sale of Irish horses can continue to thrive at home and internationally.” Maria said “It has been fantastic to showcase Irish ponies globally, many have already begun their journeys to the States, Asia, Europe as well as Ireland and the UK.”

The advantages of the auction format has many benefits for buyers also. “At the moment, it isn’t possible to travel to view ponies but even when we can travel, it is a big time commitment to view individual ponies or even go to a sales.
